  1. I just started riding about 2-3 weeks ago and have been doing about 100 miles a week over 3-4 days. I have had an avg speed of about 16-20mph depending on the route. I am wondering if that is any good. I am also looking for some good ideas for training. Any ideas would be great.
    Thanks.

  2. Yep, that's pretty good. My best training advice at this point is to find out where the local clubs start their group rides and start riding with them. You'll pick up lots of pointers, have more fun than riding solo, meet some people to push you further, and generally learn a lot about the sport.

Good advice from frenchyge. Agree joining a club is a great way to go. When you get on a club ride, you'll find people of all ages and abilities. Just don't be surprised if some old crusty guy will plenty of years and endurance humbles you late in the ride....cycling is a sport that seems to reward persistence.

Only other advice I'd offer is to take it easy on the miles and speed until you've got a few months of conditioning going. 100 miles a week is a good volume for a lot of us who've been riding for years. You don't need to hurt yourself, develop a chronic injury early, or get burned out in a desperate attempt to be an instant wonder.
