  1. Hot Mulled Cider (crockpot)

    1/2 gallon

2 quarts apple cider 2 Tbsp orange flower water or orange-flavored liqueur
2/2 cup raisins 1 orange, sliced, unpeeled 1 apple, quartered, cored, unpared 1 lemon or
    lime, sliced
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed 5 pieces star anise (optional) 1 tsp ground nutmeg 1 stick cinnamon 1
tsp whole allspice 8 whole cloves

In a 5-qt crockpot, combine everything (double above amounts). Bring to boiling. Reduce heat and
simmer 10 minutes. Plug in crockpot at least 1/2 hour before serving time. Ladle into mugs to serve
hot. I recommend prepping this by putting all the spices together ahead of time in a Ziploc or small
Tupperware for a helper to just dump in.) Although not documented as a true medieval recipe because
of the use of the crockpot, This recipe has been served at medieval and renaissance parties and
events, and the ingredients are typical of the period.
