  1. I drink about a quart of tea a day and had always used cane
sugar. Then I tried natural sweeteners. Xylitol gave me gas
and light diarhea. Stevia was too bitter and always with a
    bitter aftertaste.

So I started sweetening tea with clover honey. So far it
works good and it seems to require less sugar. I wonder what
    the difference is?

Try stevia extract. It gets rid of the bitter taste. Honey
has a pretty high glycemic index. Search for "Mendoza
    Glycemic Index" with Google.

The stevia extract I've tried is a power in a box about the
size of a baking soda box. And, it makes foods and drinks
    taste bitter to me.
