My main bike is a 2006 Trek 1000 (flambouyant orange) but I needed a second bike (rain or whatever).
So, I bought a used Raleigh a year or so ago that I really enjoy. It says it's a Raleigh RT 550 but I cannot find any info on that model (year of manufacture etc...).
It's a little on the big side for me (58.5 cm) but rides good. It says frame is composite 4130 chromolly & Easton E9 aluminum. Currently has Shimano 105 8 speed group (downtube shifters) with Trek Matrix wheelset (obviously not original).
I'm mainly looking for anyone that has ever heard of this model and where I could possibly find out about original components etc...
I'm considering swapping components to a smaller Raleigh Technium Tri Lite frame but wanted to find out more about the 550 before doing so.
You are probably gonna have to do a fairly extensive internet search for this. One thing to look at is the head badge(sticker or plate attached to the head tube). It will tell you if the bicycle is a Raleigh USA Product or a Raleigh Canada Product. If it just says Raleigh, then it could be a UK Raleigh, a Danish Raleigh, a German Raleigh, or an Australian/New Zealand Raleigh.
My guess is that it is a UK Raleigh, and you'll probably have to contact their company for full specs. You probably will not have any problems changing the group over to your Tri-Lite frame. If there is nothing wrong with the RT 550, you could probably get a good price for it on eBay.
