Anyone know where I can hire (or borrow!) a half-decent tandem in Perth? I'd like to give it a try for Sunday's Freeway Bike Hike so I'd like to get one a few days before so my partner and I can practice. After our last try a while back we'll need the practice just to get past getting the giggles!

Good luck on the tandem when you find one Frank. We were given one a few years ago and have done thousands of kms on it. Mostly long distance rides ie overnight camping trips with full paniers etc. Biggest overnight trip we did was a 300 kms return from Atherton to Chillagoe which has 32 kms of corrugated road!!!! When we pulled into Chillagoe Pub the street filled with locals wanting to have a look - rekoned they had never seen one out there before. We find that now we are "together" on the bike we need distance as it seems so much easier than single bikes which we also own and ride. Mind you the uphills can be a nightmare with approx 150kgs body weight. We also ride with friends and a social group here, we are the only ones with a tandem and it is extremely hard to ride in a pack with single bikes. I hope you find one for your Freeway ride and that it inspires you to go buy one. They are just so much fun for a couple 🙂 Kathy

There's a tandem specialist shop in Perth, only one in the country (now that <whasitisname> closed in Melbourne last year (before?)).
