Kudos to my favorite rider, George Hincapie, who, despite lots of progress in the last few years in climbing, was able to win a bunch sprint (of 65 riders) Sunday in the GP Poulay. This year the GP Poulay was a Pro Tour event and Hincapie defeated the likes of Rebellin (3rd), Di Luca (12th), Ullrich (10th) and numerous others. In terms of quality of field and singlemindedness (in that everyone was trying to win the day's race, as opposed to the TdF where some were going for a 3 week GC), it is perhaps his biggest win.
I don't know if there were any pure sprinters in the peloton; Petacchi, Zabel, Boonen, and Hushovd finished in that order in Monday's stage of the Vuelta. But there were many quality one-day riders competing.
According to CyclingNews, Hincapie got light cheers and also boos because of the recent allegations by L'Equipe concerning Armstrong.
