Hill Grade?

well, just make a triangle and do some geometry. Dont forget to convert all units to be the same type. Once you find the degree, you can convert that into a percentage of 360 er whatever for percent grade.

but this would just be the average grade over that 3 miles.

Hmmm...ok...so...
5280' ~ mile
x 3 ~ miles
-----
15840' Total distance

Then you divide the elevation change by the distance??

800/15840 = .05 or 5%

Hmmm...seems correct!!! And yes...that would be the AVERAGE grade over those 3 miles...there are some parts where it is steeper/flatter.
