Hi, I'm new :)

Pretty new to swimming, and new to this NG.

Just wanna introduce myself and say Hello.

34 F, and just starting to take up swimming to stay in shape and enter a meet here and there. I
never swam as a kid, not in an organized manner. I discovered there is a wonderful group of Master's
swimmers in my area and started swimming there about a month ago.

I got coerced into my first swim meet this weekend. I did 49.07 on 50M LC and
1:58.?? on 100M LC.

Well, I was under 50sec and under 2 min, which is what I was hoping for. Compared to other people's
times, it is so sloooow! So frustratingly slow. And I have NO kick! (Anyone know of good stretches
for feet?) My teammates keep reminding me... "What more do you want, you just started barely 3
weeks ago" They keep telling me I'll get faster. Maybe by November I can get to low 40's or at
least 45 in a 50M

Well, anyway .... Hi everyone :)

Welcome aboard, Kitty. Nice times, first time out.

What type of "feet stretches" did you want to know about?

Thanks for the welcome :) Thos are decent times? Really? (okay, just keep telling me that) I'm
impatient, I wanna swim in high 30's, right now! If it kills me ;)

Today, I'm feeling like "wah wah wah, I'll never get faster" Nevermind that I'm extra tired today,
on a 4th day in a row, and I had a wild hair up my bum yesterday afternoon to go rollerblading... 8
miles. I haven't done that in 2-3 years.

Feet stretches... well, my feet don't point well. I'm reading ideally a 90° bend or more is really
helpful for the kick. My feet barely go 80° right now.

I'm trying to stretch them, slide my toes under something (a couch), lay back, give it a good
stretch. So we'll see. I don't know if there is anything else I should be doing. My kick really
sucks. I have strong legs, but I get no propulsion out of my kick yet. When we do kicking drills
with fins, I do really well, and I guess contrary to a lot of swimmers, I'll take kicking drills
over pulling drills any time. My upper body has some catching up to do.

Our coach does stroke clinics, but doesn't have any scheduled till late September... He also does
private lessons. I'm tempted to take a lesson or two, see if he can fix my kick. Then I'm thinking,
maybe wait another month, get in a bit better shape. I dunno.

Don't over do it, you're muscles need the rest.

If you keep swimming day after day you're times will go down instead of going up!!!

And Yes those are decent times for beginners.

Good luck with you're training

Thanks for the reminder :) Yea, I do have tendency to overtrain.

Tomorrow is a very light day, and my shoulders need it! Just easy stretch out 1000.

I use fins, Zoomers. And I use paddles for pulling and all that... I was just thinking couple
days ago, maybe I need to get longer fins for a little while... ? Might give me more of a
stretch? I'm not sure.
