    What are the advantages of Shimano gears ? And what is the right kind of bike for someone who is not
    a avid biker ...

    Really depends on where you ride, go to a good bikeshop and try a few different types of bike and
    see which you like.

    Just make sure that you don't buy a cheap full suspension MTB, in fact unless you're planning to
    actually ride off-road, mountain bikes aren't really that much cop, try looking at hybrids.
