  1. I saw a neat bike yesterday. The 'bike lady', a local police auction
recycler, has an old hercules step through five speed utility bike in
her rack of MTB's. Priced at $80, and looks to be in excellent
    condition.

    Any opinions?

Hercules is a classic brand. Good stuff. Like an old Raleigh, they're
common enough that you can fix them up and use 'em. I'd gladly pay $80
for a specimen in good shape.

    WOW !! A Hercules !!

Its been a _LONG_ time since I've heard mention of this brand.

My first 'real' bicycle was a Hercules with a 3 speed deraileur.

Here is a picture of it after I had converted it to a fixie.

Grab it. Herc's a classic. $80 is still a decent price but I'd still
    try to talk it down.

When I first saw the Hercules it was near the end of thier day, and
threatening rain. The row of bikes had been covered with visqueen. I
went back today for a better a look and was surprised to find that
this is a German bike that looks to be of recent vintage. Still
interesting. It has a bottle generator with wiring going inside the
frame for head & tail lights. It's too small for me, and not what I
    thouhgt I had found.

In the early seventies I inherited a Hercules three speed, it was left
behind by the last tennant of a house I rented. I loved that bike &
used it as primary transportation for three or four years.
