I’m planning a ride from Orlando Florida to Boston Mass starting mid May 2005. I will be following the Adventure Cycling route. I’m planning to use a Hennessy Hammock instead of a tent. Has anybody used one on this route. If so, are there any areas of the route that are not suitable? No camp grounds with good trees etc.

FL State parks won't let you hang a hammock, if you plan on stopping at any of them. I don't know about Federal or other states

Thanks, that is amazing since camping hammocks do less damage to a campsite than tents. Leave it to the state of Florida!

This might be a good reason to stealth camp.

I always feel like a fish out of water at a campground. I'm on a bike, I'm using a hammock, I'm not running a generator, a TV or a fridge. I like peace and quiet and object to paying the same fee as a family in the Winnebago.

As to where to stealth camp, almost anywhere will do at a pinch. You don't even need trees. Between two corners of a fence, on a hydro pilon, behind a highway sign. Public city parks are good from late at night to early morning.

Where shouldn't you stealth camp? Developed land, properties signed as "No Tresspassing", fenced or property within sight of a residence. Also quite rural areas where there is lots of litter such as beer cans etc on the ground. These are probably "bush party" sites for teens.
