  1. Hello, I am looking for people who have a V-rex with a vetter fairing. Do you mount the curved piece
that attaches to the cross bar towards the front or the rear? If you mount it towards the front the
fairing is a couple of feet away from you. If you mount it towards the rider you can't get enough
height and the brake levers hit the fairing during a sharp turn. Has anyone made the curved piece
into a straight piece? I think that would work perfect. If you have a photo of how yours is mounted
please email it to me. TIA, Mike

  2. Mike:

I had the same problem installing a second-hand zZipper fairing on my V-rex. I called zZipper, who
offered to ship a straight segment to replace the curved one for (IIRC) $80. Instead I went down to
my local marine supply store (West Marine in this case), and bought a 6' length of 3/4" aluminum
Bimini support tubing. I cut off the foot or so length required for the straight segment, and
fashioned a clip to attach the fairing to the upper end. The clip I used was a stainless, rubber
cushioned cable clamp around the horizontal bar that runs across the upper end of the fairing, with
a machine screw through the cable clamp and down into an expanding rubber plug in the new, straight
upright. Actually, I used a small bolt with a plastic knob over its head (rather than a simple
machine screw) to make fairing mounting a "tool-less" operation. This rig has now worked without a
problem for 1500 miles, and many detachments and re-attachments of the fairing from/to the bike (I
remove the fairing for transport of the V-rex on my hitch mount carrier).
