I'm relatively new to weight training. I've had dumbbells at home for
some time (almost 2 years) and have tried to workout at home. Recently,
my family joined a gym. It's nice to finally squat with an olympic bar
inside a rack. Main goals are overall fitness, gaining strength, and
adding muscle. I'm almost 43 and male, 5'5" 138lbs.
I'm doing the following, 2-3 times a week:
squats
bench press
lat pulldown
deadlift or SLDL
cable row
military press
Occasionally, I'll mix in a few variations (for instance, incline bench
instead of bench, dumbbell shoulder press instead of military press,
dumbbell or t-bar row instead of cable row, assisted pullup instead of
lat pulldown). Today, I got oriented to most of the machines in the gym,
so I may mix in some of those for a change of pace as well.
Usually, I'll do 2-3 sets of 6-10 reps (depending on day and weight) of
each exercise. Does this seem about right? Suggestions?
