My daughter, 3 years old has been suffering from occasional facial
outbursts. The results of a swab have indicated the following:
Many gram negative bacilli Heavy psudomonsa putida Heavy
acinetobacter baumannii
She was adopted from the Ukraine about a year ago, in
relatively good health given her history of
hospitalization for the first year of life due to what was
diagnosed as pnumonia, low birth weight, sub standard
nutrition at the orphanage, etc. Otherwise she has
developed well, gaining about 10 pounds in the past year
to almost 30lbs not. Although still small for her age,
physical developmental parameters are in line with the
lower range of accepted normal growth. She is otherwise
healthy with a voracious appetite.
I understand that the source of these infections is often
hospitals, so this makes sense.
Suggested treatments indicated include IV and oral
antibiotics as follows: P/A indicate the two infections
Piperacillin P Meropenem P Centamicin P Ceftaxidime P/A
Tobramycin P Amikacin P Temeth/sulfa P is resistant / A
No mention was made of Ciprofloxacin, Aminoglycoside, or
Ticarillin.
Are both of these related, and are they both stict
anaerobes?
Are there any concerns with a child this age getting
IV therapy?
Any other insights and help would be most greatly
appreciated.
