I've got a Rocky Mountain mountain bike hub (probably some generic hub with their name on it) which is in great shape but just needs some cleaning. I'd really like to take the cassette off and clean it properly, but I'm having a little trouble with it. I am used to a 10mm hex accessed from the drive side of the hub, (Shimano hubs) but this appears to have a 12mm hex, accessed from the non-drive side.
This isn't much of a problem, since I have the necessary tool, but I'm not sure which way to turn it to remove it, or if that is indeed the proper way to remove it. It's very tight and I don't want to hamfist the threads, so I was hoping someone would know the proper way to remove it. Is it right or left hand threaded?

This is from the non-drive side, with the wheel bearing removed, looking into the hub body. There is the 12mm hex deep inside, and a much larger 8 sided cutout just behind the bearing location which I expect is just leftovers from manufacturing.
