Help with bike year [cannondale H800]

I just read on Sheldon Brown's site that the serial number code on
Cannondale's includes the date of manufacture. The first 2 digits indicate
the frame size; the next 6 are the date of manufacture and the remainder are
the unit number. Hope this helps.

I seemed to remember something like that, but I was too lazy to go look at
my bike! I just went and looked at mine and my wife's, and those numbers
must be encoded or something, since I couldn't really see anything that
struck me as a date in the 1996-1998 range, which is when both of them should
have been manufactured.
