    Hey guys, I'm looking to get into cycling, but I do not want to go for a low quality bike as I know you get what you pay for when it comes to bikes. I'm looking for a bike that will be good on paved bike trails and the street. Something that will be lightweight and quality. I'm so new to this and I'm not sure what things I should be concerned about when shopping for a bike. My budget is around $2,000.

    I bought a Trek 7.3 a year ago and love it. I think you can get a great bike for a lot less than $2000... As others will probably agree take your time and find a knowledgeable shop.

    Is that a total budget including accesories (helmets, etc) or just for the bike?

    If it's just for the bike there is the option of carbon, cromoly or even titanium.

    If it's for the total then you can get something very good in aluminium with good components etc.

    If you will not use the bike on trails at all then a race road bike would be what you would eventually end up riding anyway. There is the option of "Endurance" (more comfort) and "Race" (faster position, less comfy).

    For some trail use, or commuting and touring, there is also the option for a cyclocross bike.
