  1. Hello! I am very, very new to cycling. My son has been biking for some time and is very advanced. He has recently deemed me his new "project." I love riding with him and last night we went 8 miles....a LOT for me. My problem is this....I get very irriated "you know where" and even bleed. I am quite discouraged by this and need to know fit there is anything I can do or is it something that will eventually get better. I have been riding 30 mins to an hour 4 times a week and experience the bleeding/discomfort each time. (the bleeing is outside....not inside) I am quite overweight and have wondered if this is the cause or if it's just a "woman thing."

Any words of wisdom will be greatly appreciated. I LOVE riding and want to continue. Just need to know if this will get better or is it an ongoing thing.

    Thanks!

    Donna

  2. Hi Donna,

You don't tell us the style of bike. The riding position may have something to do with it, the more upright, a comfort bike or MTB, will be better.

For any bike a womens specific saddle is essential, Serfas RX Ladies is one i would recomend to beginners. A suspension seat post will help also. Check the seat height and crank length your LBS may have to help here.

Clothing without seams in the offending area is another consideration.

I recently lost a lot of weight and my medical people would not let me cycle outside the gym until I reached my target weight. You may find short rides on an indoor trainer benefical until the weight comes down. Get some advice from a doctor on that one, blood pressure could be an issue.
