HELP NEEDED!!

Hi Jonny. Go down to your local bike shop (LBS) and get fitted. This is the first step in getting a road bike. Road Bikes come in a variety of sizes and geometry, so you need to know what size will fit you best. This is critical as it will determine whether you ride regularly or just let your new bike collect dust because it is too uncomfortable to ride. You also need to determine what kind of riding you want to do. Do you want to ride competitively? Do you want to tour? Do you just want a bike to cruise around on over the weekends? Each of these takes a slightly different style of road bike. You will also need to determine your budget. Just remember to leave a little room in your budget for certain accessories such as your helmet(must have), pedals(most road bikes are sold without pedals or with cheap platform pedals), water bottles, and cycling shorts for the padding and absence of seams in the crotch area.

Gotta agree with kdelong that you need to get fitted... Go to a few bike shops though. Some bike shops have a bunch of morons and wouldn't know the proper fit if Lance Armstrong's coach showed them. And DO NOT just simply trust if a shop is a BG Fit location.

The only BG Fit location (a very good fit program, probably the best) in this area is ruined by the idiots in the shop. They just use it to sell people more (often unneeded) accessories.

Once you determine the size I would advise you to look closely at Ebay and Craigslist and NOT buy a new bike from a shop... the reason... you are TALL! You'll pay full price for a bike (and it will probably need to be ordered) from a shop. If you find the right size used you will probably be able to get it for really cheap, because there aren't many people your height that want a bike.
