I just bought myself a brand new colnago crystal. its actually from the mid eighties, but its still nice and shiny. the problem i'm having is that when i bought it i realized that it had braze on attachments for the old-school shifters that are on the pipe from the head tube to the BB. is there some sort of ...thing i can buy to screw into those, and turn them into cable stops for handle bar shifters?

No problem. Shimano and Campy both make a downtube cable stop. The Shimano one is very nice because it works so smooth. I would use the Campy one if you have campy parts. You should be able to get a pair at any bike shop. You can call them STI cable stops or downtube cable stops.
