I am new to cycling and I'm trying to figure out how to get faster.
I have a Trek 1000 and have now been riding for about four months. I ride about 20 miles per day five or six days a week. For most of the summer, my 20 mile daily ride took me an hour to 1:05. For some reason the last several weeks my times have slowed down.... More like 1:10 to 1:15. I can't figure out what my problem is.
I hope to race some next year just to see how I do, but I honeslty feel a bit clueless about how to prepare and what to expect.
Also, any suggestions on benefits of trainers vs rollers? It's getting cold outside.

You may be overtrained from jumping into so much so soon. 5/6 days is quite a lot of riding for "4 months." Maybe some others will have opinions, as well.
I use a trainer, and it works okay for me. I brave the chill and ride outside, though. But I live in a rather warm climate.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
Well, we seem to be in the same boat on a lot of things (the bike, the distance, the time). I haven't ridden my 20 mile route in about a month, but as I'm steadily increasing the distance of my rides (from 20 to 35 to 50) I noticed that my speed when I ride 35 miles now is less than when I was solely riding 35 miles. It could be that you’re pacing yourself differently and are starting to increase your endurance (do you feel as tired now as you did before?) but your speed is starting to decline. I don’t know, maybe take a few days off and see if it’s just built up fatigue.
