Help choosing a bike

Both brands are good quality. But the bikes you mention are aimed at slightly different markets. The i-Drive 5 is able to handle the rough stuff a bit better (bigger jumps, more aggressive downhill, etc). The Specialized will be better when you're going uphill, and is probably a little lighter.

So it depends what you want to do with the bike, and what type of rider you are.

Yeah that's what i thought. Where I live there is a quite a bit of everything. Jumps, mostly single track, a little downhill, lot's of technical track. I also looked at the specialized stuntjumper fsr. That might be a little hard to get under 1500 but it looks like a overall better bike than the fsr-xc and almost as much suspension travel as the gt. What do you think

$1500 was my max as well. I was trying to decide between a Trek & Kona until I found a way-nicer '05 closeout SJ FSR Comp for exactly $1500. It is the perfect all around mtn bike. I think if you do some shopping, you'll be able to get more for your money too.

does anyone know of any online store with good bike prices. I checked 1 bike shop and the stuntjumper fsr was for 1800 so I'de like to look online, hopefully i can find it for under 1500
