Wanting to begin biking. I have had knee repair on both knees - both have lost bone covering and I basically have bone rubbing bone with some arthritis. I think biking would be great exercise for me. The only experience I've had was with my children's 12 speed bikes and I always had a hard time shifting those.
Can you advise on a bike gentle on the knees yet easy to shift? Are there bikes that change gears on their own? I'll be riding dirt terrain, some hills, to begin with. As I improve, might upgrade.

I've had knee problems and the best advice i can give is to pay a few dollars and get a professional bike fit. I went from heaps of pain to none at all by getting fitted.
Haven't heard of too many auto gear changing bikes but you probaly find the more you spend, the more smoothly the gears wil change.
