I've had an issue w/ my $30 Specialized helmet. Here's the scenario: I go out midday on a moderately dry day, and my straps are comfortably snug. Then, I leave my helmet on my bike outside during the mid to late evening while I'm in class. When I come out, it seems like my helmet straps have gotten an inch or so longer!
I'm pretty sure that I'm not imagining this, but it seems like whenever I adjust my straps properly in humid or dry conditions, once the helmet is exposed to the opposite, the straps either shrink or lengthen (High humidity=they get longer, low humidity=they get shorter). It's merely a problem of annoyance, rather than safety.
Has anyone experienced anything similar? What sort of material is this? Would more expensive helmets eliminate this problem?

My Bell helmet straps slip all the time, so I have to pull them tight. Pretty sure all straps would be nylon, so I'm surprised the humidity would affect them. Maybe it's the foam in the helmet expanding in the temperatures of midday which is making the strap tighter...that's my guess anyway.

Maybe your head is shrinking 😄
To be more serious I don't see how the humidity would affect the straps unless they were cotton. I use a fairly inexpensive Bell helmet and have never had to adjust the straps.
