Helmet cam options

I built a helmet cam three years ago using a color "spy" or "bullet" cam. Mine was US$80 off ebay.
You will need a battery pack (Nimh, alkalines, etc for 12V) and connectors to wire everything
together. The cam sits on a patch of velcro atop the helmet, with rubber bands going through the
vents to anchor it and keep vibrations down.

This setup cost about $100 total, and plugs directly into my camcorder wrapped with a towel in
the backpack.

I realize this is against your $100 statement, but I doubt you'll enjoy the results made with a
cheaper cam (like a $40 grainy B/W spy cam). The best video is shot with a higher scan line count
(480-520 on some), and a larger CCD element
(1/3" vs 1/4"😉.

The biggest disappointment with CCD spy cams is their insensitivity. This means that even cloudy
days get a dull wash, and forget recording a night ride(*).

* I've not tried recording a night ride since acquiring an HID helmet light. That may actually be
