  1. First of all, hello to everyone, just signed up.

I'm 16, completely new to cycling, and have literally no clue where to start.
Not entirely sure if this is the right part of the forum but I'll have a go anyway.

Basically, to buy a road worthy road bike, how much am I looking at? I've only just left school and looking for a part time job so the funds will come from there.
I obviously use my good ol' trusty mountain bike for travel, but I seem to really enjoy it, one of my friends is also into road cycling so thought I'd give it a go; for fitness and a jolly if nothing else.

Any advice on beginner bikes, budget, gear etc would be much appreciated. Again, I'm a complete beginner and don't have the first clue.

    Thanks for reading.

  2. Welcome to the world of cycling! 🙂

Check around your local bike shops. And remember, you don't need to get into a top of the line carbon bike straight away. If you can find an aluminum frame bike that fits you, that's a great start. For something like that in a brand new bike, you can probably spend 450-1000 pounds. If you can find one for cheaper, more power to you. Of course, you'll need a helmet. You can expect to spend at least 45 pounds for a good road helmet. Other than that, don't get too hung up on what kind of gear you need.

No matter what you get, make sure you have a proper fitting. Check out this website to give you a rough idea of what size bike you need.

Of course, the best advice you can get from any of us is just get out there and ride! You'll feel more fit and you'll have more energy. And if you want to pursue something greater like racing, awesome!

Hope I've helped you a bit.
