  1. Hej, grupper!
    Greetings from Starbo, Dalarna, Sweden.

If I did this right you should be able to read this post. If not,
blame it on having to log on to Google Groups in Swedish, of which I
know approximately 5 words on a good day.

The weather has been very rainy, 28mm of rain since last Friday when
we arrived. (No, I DON'T know how many inches.)

The food and wine have been terrific. We celebrated Midsummer with
dear friends. Lots of schnapps and beer, home-cured salmon, many
kinds of herring, potatoes, and roast tenderloin followed by divine
strawberries and a compote of rhubarb and fladderblumen (elderberry
    flowers). It was all yummy.

Not-quite-a-recipe: Two cups chopped rhubarb, six elderberry flower
clusters (young) and sugar to taste simmered in a half bottle of white
wine (Reisling) until the rhubarb is tender. Fish out the flower
clusters. Chill and serve with whipped cream. Add fresh, cut up
strawberries if you have good ones, and serve over angelfood or
poundcake if you can stand the calories.

Our hosts left us on our own here at the country house Monday and I
have cooked two dinners of flounder, one of salmon, and tonight we had
pitti-y-panna (beef hash from frozen), pickled b**ts, sliced tomatoes
with creme fraiche, lettuce "thinnings" from the garden, and those
    wonderful strawberries for dessert.
Our only duty is to scare the hares out of the garden and, of course,
to host Lars when he comes to Denver a few times a year. These are
    Good People.

I have been so happy to have found rfc on Google, and especially to
read about Mme Schaller's Ronald McDonald House dinner. I am proud to
    know her.

It's such a beautiful part of the world. I hope the weather clears up for
you (it's finally clearing a bit here in DK).

I'm sure you've done your homework about things to do in the area, but in
case you missed it, one of the "must sees" in the area is Dalhalla, an
outdoor concert hall in an old stone quarry. If you don't have time or
inclination to see a performance, it's well worth a trip just to see it.

    For a look:
    http://dalhalla.se/

And I'm rather fond of the "summer farms," where people pasture their
dairy herds over the summer. There are (or were) some 40 of them in
Dalarna, and you can spend some pleasant time walking in nature and then
stopping for a cup of coffee and a bit of flatbread with cheese and butter
made fresh from the herd. Pictures here:

But I haven't found an organized link with information, nor can I find the
big brochure with map showing where all the farms are that I picked up in
Dalarna a couple of years ago...

You can change the language preference to the right of the search box,
    using the bottom link. 🙂

Hope you have a good rest-of-trip.
