A number of years ago I saw a report that suggested there was a correlation
between heart beat before and after exercise and the chances for stroke or
heart attack. More specifically: if within a minute after ceasing a
strenuous activity the heart beat does not fall by at least 12 and at best
by 20 beats, that person is statistically more prone to a heart attack or
stroke than someone whose post -exercise heart beat does fall within that
range. I have advised people of this research especially when I'm working
out but am now beginning to wonder . So few people seem to have heard about
this neat little formula it makes me think this may have been of these
little research reports that pop-up and then disappear because they have no
real basis. Anybody know?

The closer you get your heart rate to its max, the better. You can
also try it at 70% of max - if you exercise you should still get a
drop way more than 12 beats. Mine is about 30 beat drop. Check with
the Cleveland Clinic website for more details (they did the research).
(note, the smaller pc of max you get your HR the smaller the dropoff
