  1. I have a brother in law who suffers from awful headaches. He
recently had a brain scan and there were no abnormalities.
His wife told me recently that he doesn't drink anything
other than coke or coffee. Is it possible his body isn't
    getting enough fluids (water)?

    Anybody got any ideas

There are all sorts of types of headaches. For people who
get headaches often they tend to be grouped as either
    migraines, tension or cluster headaches.

Caffeine or caffeine withdrawal is known to be a precipitant
of migraines in some people, but that doesn't mean that will
definitely be the cause in your brother in law's case.

Caffeine based drinks probably don't hydrate the body well
since caffeine is a diuretic and causes increased urinary
output. So it could well be that your brother in law's fluid
intake is not optimum, but it would unlikely be a cause for
headaches if he is otherwise well, but could be.

I suggest you look up the features of tension, cluster and
migraine headaches to decide which sort (if any) your
brother in law falls into. Sometimes things can be done if
    specific triggers/types are identified.

    Nico,

Just a thought. Has your brother ever had a sleep study
done? I was also suffering from major migraine
headaches every day.. almost twice a day. It was
affecting my work and performance. I had all the test
under-the-sun and all fine. I finally was asked to see
a neurologist. He suggested having a sleep study. They
found out that I has sleep apnea and hypopnea. My body
was deprived of oxygen. I now wear a C-PAP machine that
provides continues air pressure into my nostrils when I
sleep. My migrain head aches stopped. I still get
tension and sinus headaches maybe twice a month. I am
grateful to be almost headache free! Good luck. Nicole

Sure, along with a zillion other things. Your brother needs
    to go see his doctor.
