  1. Now here's an interesting opinion piece from today's Age:

    Apparently Doyle hasn't gone far enough on EastLink:

    "Surely a Doyle government could generate annual savings of $100-$200
    million from this huge public transport expenditure to pay for these
    reduced tolls instead of shaving other government expenditures ‹ not
    only for five years but for the lifetime of the project. Metropolitan
    roads, which take over 90 per cent of passenger traffic and all business
    traffic, only get $436 million in the 2004-05 budget, so it should be an
    economic imperative to reduce these annual public transport expenditures
    of $1.526 billion for just 8 per cent of passenger traffic."

    Ah, yes -- "economic imperative". Discuss...

    I think the attribution says it all:

    ``Dr John Cox is the author of Refocusing Road Reform and Roads in the
    Community. He also carried out the economic feasibility study of
    CityLink.''
