I find that steaming eggs for about 20 minutes allows for easier
shell removal for hard boiled eggs. I think somebody else tried it
out with one of those bamboo wok steamer dealies with good sucess as
well. I've posted about this before.

Yes I can see that would work if you were very good with your
    timings. I am not🙂

    What timings?
The timer times it, I just come back when I hear the ding which is the
bell going off indicating that the steamer has just turned off. The
electric veggie steamer fills multiple rolls hence it uses less space
than various stuff that fills only one role.

Mind you I haven't made soft boiled eggs in it and probably never
will...as I like eggs but have little use for soft boiled when I could
get sunny fried, poached or scrambled instead.

Hard boiled eggs are used as lunch snacks, sliced as salad toppings or in
egg salads and being deviled or other uses.

Well yasee, for people like me, there is a wee measuring cup and you put
water in it up to the line that says, hardboiled, softboiled, medium boiled
    🙂)

Oh I have a 3 tier steamer which I use daily anyway🙂) I cook all my
    veggies in it.

I have an electric egg boiler (cos I am rubbish at timing eggs). that
has a wee needle on the base of the water measure. That is used to
poke a wee hole in the egg. I have yet to find an egg I can't peel
    from that cooker.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Brand-UK-Princess-Egg-Cooker/dp/B0006FFT1Y is
similar to mine. I can choose how I want my eggs and bingo!! I get
    them every time🙂)

Ok, you've convinced me. I just ordered one!

blimey! I should be asking for commission🙂)

I got rid of my electric steamer. Just didn't have room for it. I use
the steamer inserts that came with my cookware. That works great for
veggies. Now I'll have to find somewhere to store my egg cooker but it's
    much smaller than the steamer.

I do these things like order things I want then tell hubby. Otherwise
he'd say we don't need another gadget. Today we hard cooked some more
eggs. And these were the store bought. They were hard to peel too. Then
I told him I have an egg cooker coming! LOL He just said he hoped it
    worked.

    That is normal.

One way to make fresh eggs peel-able is to leave the carton out at room
temp for 3 or 4 days. They age a bit faster that way.

Steaming fresh eggs also worked for me rather than boiling them.

I used to have my own chooks.

My stupormarket now sells peeled hard - boiled eggs, IIRC it's like

I'll check next time I go, they advertised these last time they had an egg
    sale...I was like, "Huh!?".

My store has a lot of that _Sex and the City_ demographic, it's targeted to
them I'm sure..peeling eggs is something they'd consider "icky"...

[This is the same demo that is constantly whining that they are broke, turns
out they are ordering carry - out every night or getting pre - cooked
entrees at the deli, carry - out salad bar at four bux/pound, a heavy
Starbuck's habit, etc. Don't they teach Home Ec any more...??? What they
spend on prepared foods in two or less days I could budget for a whole week,
    and eat very well too...]

Me, I'll pay 99 cents for a dozen at Walgreen's or wherever and peel my
    own...

I buy a lot more eggs in the summer, they are used almost exclusively for
tater salad...I can peel a dozen eggs in nothin' flat...!!!

That kind of pre - done stuff is a huge money maker for the stores...it's no
    wonder they push it.

Memorial Day I made cole slaw for a coupla cookouts, I think the whole
amount I spent was less than four bux for the huge amount I made (four heads
of cabbage, two bags of carrots, red bell peppers, scallions, dressing
ingredients). Some young gal commented, "Wow, this is good, where'd you buy
it?". When I explained that I actually *made* it she expressed amazement
that someone would actually get out the food processor to chop the
ingredients and not buy a bottled coleslaw dressing...to listen to her you'd
think it was pioneer days or something. I'm like "Hey, I didn't *grow* the
    cabbage and stuff...", lol...

My uncle had chickens. He taught me that they had to be a few days old
before you could peel them hard-boiled. Fresher is not always better.
