handlebar stems.. HELP

One quirk with the Headshok system is that unlike other steerer types, you can't use spacers to make the stem higher -- any change in handlebar height has to be done with a higher-rise stem. That being said, Cannondale make all sorts of stem lengths and configurations available; your bike shop should be able to get whichever one will fit properly without any hassle.

One other issue with ordering one of these is to make sure you get the right handlebar clamp type. There are three;

25.4mm for standard mountain bike handlebars
26.0mm for standard road bike drop handlebars
31.8mm for oversize mountain and road drop handlebars

Make sure you get the right one for your handlebar.

I'm not feeling particularly flash with my maths at the moment, but thinking about the most extreme example in stock at that shop I linked above (120mm, 35 degree bend).. if you turned that stem so it pointed up, its 35 degree bend combined with the angle of the head tube, will probably make the handlebars about 6-7cm higher.

Then on the MTB at least, you could make up whatever's left by using a riser bar instead of a flat bar.

If you hunt around, another option may be a Syntace VRO stem for a Headshok fork. These are an adjustable stem that they used to (and maybe still do) make in the proper Headshok size.

This site has hundreds of stems to choose from. Kalloy and Zoom have the largest selection of adjustable stems.
