I've got hand pain -- in just one hand. The left feels fine when I ride, but my right hand gets sore around the base of my thumb. Today my right wrist also got mildly sore. I'm still riding a hybrid with grip shifters.
I'm wondering if this is a handlebar-width problem? I *am* a small woman riding a hybrid designed for men, and it does feel like if my hands could be just a bit closer together on the bar, it would be more comfortable. What do you guys think? Does that sound like what might be going on?

You could push your shifters in farther (along with the grips) and see what happens.
