So you don't figure Coppi, Hinault, Anquetil (and 50 others I could name)
belong in your list?

.... but as a cyclist he had eight grand tour wins (France five times,
Italy twice, Spain once) against Headstrong's seven and LeMond's three.

Would that be in 1978, 1979, 1981, 1982 or 1985? Just to help you with
that, LeMond entered his first Tour de France in 1984. So who 'let' the
Badger win the other four times? Who 'let' the Badger win three Giros
and two Vueltas? That's a total of ten grand tour wins, against
Headstrong's seven and LeMond's three - more than anyone except Merckx.

Yup. He left his wife and lived with his mistress. Apart from that he won
seven grand tours, against Headstrong's seven and LeMond's three.

Morning had broken, and we had run out of gas for the welding torch.
