My letter to the Guardian FWIW:
Dear Sir
I read with alarm your supportive and uncritical article on Eric Martlew MP's
Private Members Bill (Thursday 8 Jan) to enforce wearing of cycling helmets by
children under 16. Apart from the unchecked factual errors about the numbers
of children dying from head injuries for example the evidence to support the
case just is not there. Rather than sit and argue that evidence here I can
perhaps point you to your own excellent article on the subject from 1999 (link
below). Please read it and then re-read the article you wrote on Thursday.
Something does not add up and I fear that Mr Martlew and the Bicycle Helmet
Initiative Trust not only want to force a helmet on our heads, they also want
to pull the wool over our eyes.
Yours sincerely
Dr Tony Raven
