I'm pretty ambivalent as to whether it is a good or bad thing for kids to wear helmets. I do however
thing it is a disgrace to attempt compulsion without overwhelming evidence.

Didn't you also mention a letter to the Times, if I'm right could we see a copy?

Rather than being sidetracked by the efficacy of helmets and whether it is sensible to wear one.

Without a bit of care the whole issue could get muddied. If people support it because 'wearing
helmets is a good idea' then we are in trouble. If we consistently refer to it as banning cycling
then it puts the emphasis back on the effect.
