  1. Just started biking this year and the other day I went for only a 20k ride but the following day I noticed some pain in the groin area. I'm not sure if it is a groin pull, but after sitting for a while, when I get up I get a sharp pain in the right groin area that feels better after I start walking.

I'm not sure how it could've happened, but I rode for about 4 days straight a week ago, took some time off (went away for the weekend), and the 1st ride back was the one mentioned above. I stretched like usual, though can't say I stretched afterwards.

So I assume this is normal from time to time, but I would appreciate some tips on stretching this area, and want to understand if the long break, after lot's of riding, can cause this.

Also any web/book references would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

  2. Ok, stretching afterwards is very important - this is the time when your muscles are at the warmest and you have the greatest opportunity to put length back into them.

The other thing is that you mention walking - this I definitely recommend. It is great for stretching your groin and hamstrings, especially after an activity such as cycling that shortens them.

So, strech immediately after a ride and go for a 15 min walk, really striding out and feeling the stretch in the groin area.

Who the hell told you that? you shouldn't stretch whilst the muscles are very warm mainly because the muscle fibres at this point are at there most elastic, and strains and sparins more easily occur.

Stretching is a warmup up thing. walking is deffinately a warm down thing..

but if you insist on stretching this area, sit on your bum on the floor, put the soals of your feet together, pull them into your bum, then gently push your knees to the floor, if you have been doing this whilst the muscles have been warm then thats probaly what caused the injury. overstretching. dont do it to the point that it hurts.
