We're planning a trip to Green Valley, Arizona next month to visit the in-laws. I've found a bike shop in that town that will rent both road and mountain bikes.
As I've never been in the area before, I was wondering if anyone can tell me if it would be better to ride road or mountain while I'm down there.

I'd rent a road bike, since the riding around these parts is stellar. But I'm a roadie, so my opinion might be biased.

Well, all of my riding is around Tucson. What I'd do, if I were you, is ask that bike shop you found or go to the email Fair Wheel Bikes and ask them. They're a Tucson shop, but I doubt their knowledge is surpassed by anyone 'round here. Email would go to: [email hidden] .
Off the top of my head, Madera Canyon in the Santa Rita Mountains isn't far from Green Valley and is supposed to be a beautiful place to ride. If you have access to a car, there are all sorts of five star rides 'round Tucson.
