No - good old GPS 12. A fine bit of kit - does for me.

I've had a few waaaaay out points on my Magellan. Classic one was when I turned it on and it decided
that I was somewhere around the middle of the Indian ocean. It decided a few minutes later that it
was not going to work and petulantly refused to do anything until I took the batteries out.

Since then I've kept an eye on it, and I think it only does odd things when it's low of volts -
touch wood.

totally OT but doing any HF work lately? I just had all my long distance radio drop out on me - I
guess there is something going on up over the poles!

Nope. Sold my HF gear a few years ago. I couldn't be bothered with aerials after they cut the tree
down in the park, and then I discovered the Internet, although the QRM is just as bad here!

I have a vague memory that I have met you somewhere and that we had a mutual friend, could have
been Reg G3WPF? Wotsyer callsign? I can remember them better than names and faces!

You may have met may father Alvey, G4KSY or my grandfather G8DSY (dec.) As you are not in qrz I'm a

There are no rules, simply customs and conventions. You might like to know that, like those who
write letters to newspaper editors in green ink, those who top post to newsgroups have acquired an
unfortunate reputation for being clueless intemperates. This may have something to do with the fact
that top posting destroys the logical sequence of a discussion, and hence is only likely to be used
by those to whom logical sequence is an alien concept.

The usual excuse "I top post because that's where <my posting program> puts the cursor" makes about
as much sense as pooing in your trousers because that's where your mum put your bum.

But it's entirely up to you how you wish others to see you.

How come though that I was the original friendly happy chap contributing to the group who ended up
on the receiving end of unnecessary sarcasm? When I rebelled against the unfriendly fellow, everyone
turned on ME ? I appreciate the logic when it comes to top posting and how it irritates some people,
I suppose it's just laziness............

Can't say I heard those calls... No, there was a Chris I met from the Midlands, obviously not
yourself.

I don't think my fathers been on HF for years, he's still got a nice 80m-12m rig but most of the
stuff he plays with now is 23cm and up. Bit tricky just happening across a working station
around there.

My Summit once displaced me from Mount Keen to somewhere off Shetland.. Took a while to work out why
56N 3 W had moved several hundred miles... Disconcerting on my first confluence visit.

I think the way you "rebelled" may have turned people against you a wee bit. However it is always
good to get new posters who want to contribute to the group. I think you will find that we are

It was brilliant and horrible, then brilliant again. I'll get around to posting the TR's as soon as
I can, but this October Project is taking up so much of my time I'm developing a backlog. I'd
happily write them up now, but now I have to go out *again*. Still, only a few days left now, so
I'll have time to sort everything out on the weekend.

I want to get to Sgwd Einion Gam today, before the rains come (and they are forecast for this
afternoon). I haven't done all the waterfalls yet this month, so I'd like to get a complete set of
photos by the end of this week, then I can do an "October Waterfalls" collection.
