So, Curt, are you okay with this? You think it's childish and idiotic of
me to object to TBR - who lives a half hour drive from me - from making
plans to seek me out with David? You still think he's funny?

I suspect it was satire. Inappropriate, that is true, but satire
    nonetheless.

You get to feel laissez-faire about it. I don't.

    Quoted message said:

    What you're doing,
imo, is jumping up on a soapbox while screaming "LOOKIT ME!"

Or talking with my friends. Your call. (I suspect you're projecting.)

Your kid is six years old and was invited to practice at a dojo in
your area? I read that somewhere in MFW and had to laugh.

His father & two siblings go. He's been "invited" several times - by his
father, by the instructors who know our family, by his brother. "C'mon,
why don't you come, too?" That's an invitation. What's so
funny/strange/unbelievable about that? The dojo is an option - more so
for him than for most six-year-olds, I suspect.

    But don't put on
your face of indignation and ask if I'm /okay with this/.

You think this is all a game. It's not. This is a real life and I'm part
of a usenet commmunity. You think we're all silly voices playing in your
head for your amusement. That's the troll philosophy. I'm in a different
    reality than you are.

(especially when you're aware that a so-called Well Known Troll lives

What an [censored]. Saying I'm not allowed to talk about my family if I
don't want them molested? Get a grip. It's NOT okay to threaten my
family. It's really not. Even if I give out personal information, it's
STILL not okay to threaten to harm a child. Even if you THINK IT MIGHT BE
SATIRE. It crosses a line that isn't okay to cross.

Ya know, it is very interesting to me that Curt is talking about how it is
OK for some ultimate creep to molest your children. And he is apparently
some kind of school teacher?? And he teaches grade school children??
Doesn't anybody think this is ultimately creepy and possibly dangerous?

It also points out how the trolls are dilgently trying to deny the use of
the newsgroup to others who want to have valid discussions.

I ought to be okay with it because I used to post under my real name and

Well, yes, it is. Which is precisely why I'm giving him a chance to
    rethink his position.

They may work diligently at it, but I'm fairly oblivious to it because
of the use of killfiles. That "parenting advice needed" thread was
completely different when I went to look at it on google. From my
normal perspective what I saw was I got some good advice, some workable
options, and a bit more illuminated about how to handle aggression in
boys. The usenet community worked. I posted it here rather than in
misc.kids because I share many of the values of the people who post here.

But when I went and looked at it on google (preparing the abuse report)
i saw a completely different thread - 97 posts and most of them from
    people I have killfiled.

I'm stating fact. I either a) never knew you had a child or b) had
forgotten you had a child. Perhaps TBR would say the same.

So, if you're sincere in your belief that TBR is a threat to the
safety of that child then reminding him that there IS a child there,
just 30 minutes from your location (which you've also advertised) is
probably a bad idea. Wouldn't you agree?

And you didn't answer my question:

    Have you contacted the police?

I strongly suspect that you're boasting or preening online and have
taken no steps whatsoever (so far as contacting authorities/law
enforcement in your town or, hey, he's only 30 minutes away, right? I
think you might do well to visit the cops in HIS town) as you realize
that TBR is not a threat to you or your loved ones.

Having said that, I will relate that there was apparently a murder
committed by a visitor to rec.arts.bodyart. Many read his messages -
though, iirc, there were only a few - and then (I for one, at least)
saw a follow-up post offering information that this very same
individual had murdered another man, thought this other man was
apparently not a Usenet contact of his murderer.

As a longtime Usenet participant in a number of newsgroups, I've been
witness to more than one threat of physical IRL violence from one
patron to another. I've even been asked to die (mentioned that one
before, I believe, and, yeah, my one death-wisher is now dead - karma?
I wonder) by a Usenet patron. But, for the most part, I would guess,
the instances of Internet and Usenet threat-making are puffery. Smoke.
Threats without substance and with no actual basis for worry or
    concern.

You, perhaps, are the one who needs to get a grip.

    Still, forewarned...

Which just points out just how trolls degrade the usenet experience for
anybody. You wanted useful information and an intelligent discussion. Both

    You can't.

What I have done, however, is:

    a) point out that she might want to talk less about it on Usenet, thus
giving a truly dangerous individual (which I suspect TBR is not) an
opportunity to actually cover his tracks.

    b) state my belief that no one was being serious in their so-called
    threat.

    c) suggest that she contact the police in her town and to also contact
the police in the alleged threat's town if she truly believes there is
a danger to her or any member of her family.

    d) point out that, although I suspect no threat exists, violence by
members of Usenet actually has taken place and that she might want to
    be aware of that fact.

    e) note that, in my experience, most threats of violence on Usenet

her family good health and continued safety.

But when I went and looked at it on google (preparing the abuse report)
i saw a completely different thread - 97 posts and most of them from
    people I have killfiled.

I do the same. The old Brit is always accusing everyone of having
"alleged killfiles" because it horrifies him to believe that people
would actually consider his posts irrelevant. He's obviously wrong.
However, when Agent downloads messages, it momentarily flashes the
number of headers actually found before the filters take effect. When
more than half the messages are filtered, I occasionally check Google
to see just how extensive the troll dialogue is. In my experience,
about 2/3 is Bill Davidson, constantly changing usernames and email
addresses in a desperate attempt to get someone to respond.

Ya know, it is very interesting to me that Curt is talking about how

    He's not saying it's okay,

There you go, Lee. Even Dally disagrees with you.

Lee, a guy, at least one person has called the ultimate [censored].

he's saying I'm grandstanding by objecting.
I ought to be okay with it because I used to post under my real name and
I therefore (??) deserve any criminal acts that befall me.

Did I say that? Look again. And this time read for comprehension.

Doesn't anybody think this is ultimately creepy and possibly dangerous?

Well, yes, it is. Which is precisely why I'm giving him a chance to
    rethink his position.

Speaking of rethinking positions, didn't you just say that of the 97
posts, most were constructive and helfpful?

What does that tell you? So, you were saying about rethinking? Perhaps
you should do some of your own, eh?

Your main mistake was in asking Curt if your thinking was acceptable
to him. Why should anyone give a [censored] what he thinks?

I thought he wasn't a troll. I had him in a category sort of like Om -
    not-a-troll-but-plays-with-trolls.

I've now rethought that position. Sorry it took me so long.

Laundry awaits, but this Sunday has been very enjoyable. I hope you're
    enjoying your Sunday as well.

Maybe when you get a chance, let me know how you get to 'troll' from

    advancement.

    LMAO! That awesome. :o)

And laughter *always* makes things more enjoyable at that. David, I've
told you, keep hammering away at his beak.

I'm almost certain that was my ticket to the troll "status".

The Proboscis Putz, Schnozilla, Beak Boy, you know.

You can do it, David! Troll, troll, troll!!!

    T-t-t-t-ROCKAND~*ROLLLLL!!!!*~

QUICK, SUMBUDDY QUOTE ME! I'M AN ATTENTION-SEEKING SO-CALLED TROLL WHO
WANT TO MAKE SHURR THAT JAY EM WHAT'SHISFACE SEE HIS NICKNAMES, OK???

    ~*THANKS!!!!!*~

Come on L-L-Larry, show some BACBONE, or bacKbone, you spineless POS.
"Enable me" and offer up one of your cute "arteest" comments.

Oh, yeah, as an aside: I'd like to thank mica for encouraging my
participation in this newsgroup. I probably would have posted my Mr.
Olympia question and never been seen again in this ng without her
    encouragement.

Also kudos to JMW for offering up much-appreciated attention via his
traq (troll faq shorthand, of course) with some great pics of yours
truly. It's obvious that his attention and, hey, what some, hnh, HE
would call "troll enabling" has motivated me to increase my number of
    posts to this ng.

SAY, JMW, WAS THAT YOUR GOAL? AND CAN YOU DEFINE *DIPSHIT*?

And to Hodges for, uh, well, for nothing, actually. (Just feeling
    sympathetic about his invertebrate-ness.) "J-J-J-ust c-can't
    t-t-t-take B-b-b-bill I g-guess."

ahahahahAHHAHAH! Hoo! Okay, I'll thank him for the laughs. Awesome.

Here's to us and those like us (raising a glass) . . . damned few left!

    CLINK!

    Cheers, mate!

Charles, Om, Cohen, Steve, JMW, Queenie (you brittle bit... never
mind), Dally, Hanson, anyone else, a round to MFW's continued good
    health?
