Good use for jello containers

  1. I buy my SF jello at Walmart - ready to eat. My plan allows for egg
    whites, but not yolks. Scrambling egg whites doesn't result in a
    visually pleasing products - especially if you're scrambling with
    mushrooms...lol (stick with me - i'm going somewhere with this.) The
    other day i had a brainstorm as i was tossing the jello cups into the
    recycle bin. I could fill them with egg whites, put them in the
    vegetable steamer - and voila! hard-cooked whites. They turn out
    perfectly, and i can easily slice, dice, cube, smash - whatever.

    Interesting. A lower tech approach is to boil the whole egg, then discard
    the part you don't want (feed it to the dog or whatever).

    I like the yolks but not the whites, so I dont' bother wiht fancy ways to
    peel the boiled egg. I just break it and get the yolk out, then throw away
    the outside stuff.

    I don't buy whole eggs - just the whites in a carton.
