  1. I saw a couple of Giants in a local shop, quite nice. The ST was the least expensive, sale at 280.00. For the casual recreational rider is there a significant weight difference between steel and aluminum? Any opinions appreciated. Thanks.

Without taking into account the possible weight difference in the components on the two you are looking at, figure if the frames 'look' the same but are made of different materials, the bike with the aluminum frame will probably weigh about 2 lbs. less than the bike with the steel frame ...

For casual riding, that weight doesn't matter AND the only time you may notice the difference is when you are hoisting it onto a bike rack or a hook in your garage.

IF the components are the same, then you may as well buy the one that either costs less OR whose paint color suits your aesthetic preference.
