Hey guys...first post...I will be going tomorrow to get fitted for my first road bike...definately don't want to spend a fortune on the first one but don't want to buy something that I will "outgrow" too quick...
The LBS I will be getting fitted at (POWRFIT system) has recommended I look at the Giant OCR-3 for a starter road bike...after reading about everyone hating the SORA component group and the tires (although it looks like they all come with the same tires) would it be worth it up front for me to spend the money and go with the OCR 1 or 2 instead of the 3...will someone as new to this as me be able to see a night and day difference...
On a side note...they also mentioned that the OCR frame geometry might not be right for me after getting fitted and we would have to look at some other options...so maybe the TCR frame...but he did say there would be 5 or 6 different ones to choose from (brand wise)...
Any opinions onthe subject would be greatly appreciated...

I just recently got a Giant OCR3 which is my first road bike. I've been riding mtb's for so many years and the difference between mtb's and road bikes is like night and day! I'm going to keep the Giant stock for now since the thing is already so light (compared to what I'm used) and I don't want to spend any more money! The thing that amazes me the most is how the thing climbs... my god! And then there's sprinting on it... wow! I felt I could have gone faster but the wind was holding me back. The one thing I don't particularly like on the bike are the straps on the pedals. Maybe I'll get used to them eventually. Still not too sure if I'll go with clipless pedals. As for the Sora components, I have no complaints for now. The Kenda Kontender tires look cheap but they actually grip when I corner hard. As for the geometry, it's compact meaning it runs smaller than other frames of the same cm. I'm 5'7" with a 29in inseam so I ended up getting the small frame.
I thought about getting the OCR1 but $999 was more than I wanted to spend on something I'm not familiar with. Those minimal spoke xero wheels look nice but I've read somewhere they're considered heavy. The wheelset sells for under $200 on ebay.
Well got fitted today and the OCR 3 is a pretty damn good fit...the LBS said for me to stay with the entry level and ride the hell out of it...then come back in a year or two when I was ready to get real serious and spend some money...he thinks this is the cheapest most efficient way to get me cycling and where I need to be in a bike with my skill level of riding...which is none...so I took his advice...should get my bike in a couple weeks...gotta go back for the final fitting yet...
