Markup on bikes is usually very little, but you can often find good
deals on last years models and such.

I wouldn't feel comfortable haggling on a new bike that I knew was
fairly priced, but it doesn't hurt to ask if they have any older models
that they want to move. I got a great Trek 1200 that way years ago. It
wouldn't sell as it had pink decals, so I got it for half off. If it's
good enough for Don Johnson...

Good choice bike, I opted for my Wifey Giant Sedona DX. I got away
from the Cypress since we do ride on groomed gravel roads, and the
thin tires were a concern.

Ok, so back to your big question. From what I've learned, I wouldn't
work with a LBS that I wasn't comfortable with. So, you should be
able to say, "hey what is MY price for this bike" Actually I say,
"What is the out of store price?" I understand mark ups on bikes
arne't a lot, and hefty 20% off MSRP still puts the bike over $300.

If you want cheaper, go with a last year's left over. You might have
to call around, don't think you are being cheap buying an older bike,
or ripping off your LBS wanting a good discount, just if a model
doesn't sell fast enough, you are help them open a spot on their floor
for one that does.

Good luck, I'm up in the Saucon Valley Area so I have a good LBS, so
it's easy for me to buy bikes. 🙂
