  1. Hi All,
I recently got my hands on a Giant carbon stem (CF10XL). I think these were standard on the TCR 04 (or 05) bikes.

I was looking at it, and noticed that on the inside walls of the stem there were splits (cracks) along some sections. On the outside there are no visible or noticeble cracks.

Does anyone have this stem and noticed the same thing?

Would this stem be safe to use?

Thanks in advance for any kind of input.

  2. I probably have that stem, or something close to it on my bike, but have not ridden it enough to notice anything like that yet.

I would not be overly concerned if there were not any penetrating cracks. It could be just the clearcoat over the carbon that cracked, and the carbon is still fine.

But definitely you would want to check it periodically and keep your eye on it.
