Snap! If it really is in good condition, go for it... Just put a couple of hundred aside to perhaps get the suspension and other parts serviced just to make sure it's running right... Or even better, get a LBS to give it the once over before you buy it and let you know what might be up for replacement...

Otherwise, the ATX is a good, stable (if not overly exotic) bike, and XT(R) bits are virtually as good as it gets.

It will be at least 5 years old. They were a high end bike & XT &/or XTR still is good stuff.
As with all secondhand MTB's, previous use is the key. If it hasn't been used much & not owned by a teenager, it should be an OK buy. Run away if teenage owner raced downhill on it.
Check over the frame for any damage, like cracks, dents, deep scratches etc. Check the suspension bushes & pivots for any slop, wobble etc. Check the chain & cassette & chainrings for wear.

Last, but most important, only buy it if it's the right size for you. 🙂
