Gease or Tap?

teflon tape, unless your frame tolerances are large, is probably too thick for installing your bottom bracket.

I would use grease or if you have it, anti-seize (available in auto parts stores in little tubs).

on old frames the shells can be a little oversize. if you BB cups thread in easily by hand (no slight but steady friction felt - or it wobbles once in) then the teflon would be helpful in preventing the cups from loosening.

Marine grease. Apply liberally. Torque properly. Only use teflon tape if there is persistant creaking in the bottom bracket.
