Are you sure it's a cassette hub? Many 6 speed hubs use a freewheel.

Must have missed that bit - I saw a piece about forcing the frame but only
on steel frames, then messing with the shape of wheel.

I've gone from 5, through 6, to 7 cogs on screw-on hubs. This is on my old
station hack bike. I've not had to play with frame or dishing, though its a
pretty tight fit at the rear (frame is an old 120mm width 1970's "racer"😉.

I find that 7-speed screw on choices are now getting a bit limited, so I
would go to cassette types if you have that option.
