It's about as cold in NL April as it is here in deepest Winter (late July).

Unless it was an un-seasonally warm spring in 2002, then we should
have the correct gear. The kids sleep in merino thermals, and then
in -2°C-rated sleeping bags.

I'll readily admit that we _did_ freeze in '02, but it wasn't a night.

We found our clothes either too light-weight, or too heavy for
riding during the day. I spent a couple of days sweating under
a down jacket (ick) or then taking it off and freezing. A quick shop
at the sport-bike store in Leiden got us some winter-weight (AU winter)
long sleeve jerseys, and 'warm-up' long over-nicks. Had I known
what to get, I'm not even sure I'd be able to get this sort of stuff
locally - maybe mailorder from NZ or Victoria. It just doesn't get
cold enough here for shops to carry that sort of gear. I've only
worn that jersey a few times since.

Of course one of the big problems, exacerbated by the trailer, is the
wind. According to what I've read, during April++ the wind blows roughly
north-south 75% of the time (don't remember where I read it). So with
any luck it wont be too much of a hassle - and if it is, well that's
all part of the adventure.

In the low countries the wind is mainly west (from the North Sea).
North-West winds come from the Atlantic via Iceland (what's in a name?) and
will bring cold wheather. South-West wind come through the English Channel
and will bring rain a/o storm. When we are north of the jetstream will will
have a cold period, when we are south of the jetstream we will have a
mediterrenian (how to spell this word?) type of spring. When we are on the
Transatlantic jetstream you will have all kinds of wheather during one
single day.
