  1. My old Polar HRM quit so I am shopping for a new one. I really liked
    Garmin
Forerunner 305 - tons of functions - GPS, all kinds of tables,
    averages, histories -
definitely appeals to ex-Physicist like me. I was thinking about
    Forerunner rather
than Edge 305 - I also do kayaking and occasional hiking. Are there
    any known
issues with that device? How "water resistant" it really is? Is it a
    practical tool
for MTB? Are there any better devices in similar price range (Amazon
    sells them
for 225 with cadence sensor - which is pretty good price). Is battery
    really that
much of a problem (I read people complain that it would not hold for
    longer
rides esp with HRM and cadence function going)?

    TIA for any info,

    JT
