Since about 1995 I have read Garlic will help cholesterol levels then the next week Garlic won't help cholesterol levels... back and forth, and I never did take or try Garlic to help lower cholesterol, mainly just diet and exercise to reduce my levels.
Finally time to get back into the doctor recently, and yes slow but sure each year I have reduced my cholest to a point where now it is in the low 200's, so I am getting there, he recommended I take a Garlic Supplement...I mentioned in the past reading it does and then it doesn't work (different articles from years ago) and he said without a doubt it works!
So I am kinda wondering were or are there any actual proof studies on this connection of Garlic and cholesterol since the mid 90's that either supports or denies the connection? Mainly wondering because this is a new doctor for me although he has been in practice for over 10 years and seems pretty knowledgeable... and he was the one who said take a garlic supplement daily.

Just wondering,

If it is going down then why do you question it? There are many other benefits to garlic, anti-bacterial etc that make it a good food. To feed your paranoia, let me say that simply looking at total cholesterol is not enough as is just looking at any one thing. It is the type of cholesterol comprising that total number. You can be dead with a total choesterol of 200 or healthy and not worry about it. If you make it into your 80's then it was nothing to worry about. If you get a heart attack or vascular disease within a year or two then you guessed wrong. In order to guess right you do all the tests known to be predictive of CAD and not less.
